Save a Life - Adopt a Homeless Pet!
Did you know?...In the U.S., 3-4 million dogs and cats are euthanized every year (Source: HSUS). In New Jersey, approximately 48,000 stray dogs and cats were euthanized in 2003 - 41 % of all dogs and cats impounded! (Source: NJ Dept. of Health & Senior Services). An estimated 25% of shelter animals are purebred (Source: HSUS). Please consider adopting a shelter pet! Will you volunteer?...The groups below are always in need of help. Please consider fostering a shelter dog until a "forever" home can be found, volunteering your time (e.g., walking the dogs), and/or donating supplies or money to help support the cause of homeless animals. (Newark, Tinton Falls, Forked River, Union) The City Of Hoboken contracts with AHS for animal control services, so all stray animals and injured wildlife found in Hoboken are taken to AHS's Newark shelter. AHS, founded in 1906, is a full-service humane society and the largest animal shelter system in NJ. They operate four animal care centers and Popcorn Park Zoo, a sanctuary for injured, ill, exploited, abused, abandoned, and elderly wildlife, birds, exotic, and farm animals. AHS also publishes The Humane News, the largest humane magazine in the world, helps prosecute animal cruelty cases, and promotes protective legislation. Click here for AHS's current pet lists.
