Our Mission

Founded in 2000, our mission is to preserve the special relationship between dogs and mankind by protecting and defending the rights of responsible dog ownership, opposing detrimental and supporting appropriate regulations for dog owners, educating the public, promoting standards for safe and civilized treatment of dogs, and enhancing member relations in a variety of informal and formal settings, while having fun.  We work with local, state, and federal agencies to identify, develop, and maintain clean, safe, leashed and off-leash recreation areas in new and existing parks.

Membership in the HDA is free. The board meets annually to consider new activities and review issues to advocate for improving conditions for Hoboken dog owners.

Please note, the discount program that the HDA once offered through participating retailers and pet service providers has been discontinued as of October 2013.

HDA Meeting with City Parks Director

The HDA board met with the Hoboken Parks Director on Jan. 24, 2011, to open a dialogue about ways in which dog owners and the city can work together to improve conditions at local parks and dog runs. Below is a short white paper summarizing the key points of discussion. The HDA then held a meeting of the membership on Mon., Feb. 28, at Willie McBride's (back room), where we started to flesh out a plan that represents our members' priorities for improving facilities and amenities.

The organization needs volunteers to help organize regular meetings and events, and to maintain regular communications with members. Please contact us at the email above if you're interested in getting involved.
